I read about store bought fondue on the French Revolution and thought I would give Trader Joe’s version a try. Although most recipes for fondue do not seem too difficult, I was tired last night and didn’t have it in me to make it from scratch.
The first thing I noticed as soon as I opened the sealed pouch was the overwhelming smell of alcohol. The ingredients listed kirsh but I was surprised by the strong smell. I heated the cheese mixture in the microwave, stirring half-way through. I rebelled against the directions that specified heating it over a flame.
I dipped my torn pieces of baguette in the fondue and…it was pretty good and for 90 seconds of effort it was fantastic.
