So 2008 is ending and I am looking back on the cooking I did this year…
Specifically, what cookbooks did I get the most out of? Not just the most meals but which ones inspired me or which ones changed how I cook.
Mastering the Art of French Cooking
I own the book Julie and Julia about the blogger who made all the recipes in a year which didn’t get me to buy this book. I own Cooking for Mr Latte which has a chapter on a dinner party thrown with dishes exclusively from MtAoFC and that didn’t get me in the kitchen with the book either.
Finally, I was trying to think of a fun dinner party theme and that did it. Pat and I invited 8 people over to our tiny apartment and everyone made something out of the book. There were cheese puffs (with butter), cheese balls (with butter), roast chicken (with butter), asparagus (with butter), gnocchi (with butter), chocolate cake (with butter), and lots of wine (finally something with no butter).
I love the voice of the book, the feeling that anyone can do French food, and if you make mistake, you dust yourself off and roll with it.
