My aunt flew in from VA and we are all getting together at my grandparents house. Since it’s August my grandmother will not be turning on the oven and making klochkey so I offered to bring ice cream.
I made cream cheese ice cream and lemon buttermilk sherbet, both from the Perfect Scoop. As a sidenote, I injured myself in my race last weekend and wasn’t able to finish-I am fine but did get to ride in an ambulance. When my grandmother heard she said but Sara’s bringing the ice cream! My aunt reassured her I would still bring ice cream.
This was one of the easier ice cream/sherbet recipes I’ve ever made. I added together 1/3 cup water, 2/3 cup sugar and zest of one lemon in a pan and heated them to make a syrup.
I let this cool while I juiced a couple lemons and then added 1/4 cup lemon jucie and 2 cups butter milk to the syrup. The mixture chilled in the fridged and then I threw it in the ice cream maker.
Delicious-ness ensued. Tasting a little bit, Pat and I both loved the sour lemony taste and the tang from the buttermilk.
